2009 Ferrari California GT

Ferrari California GT. The first official photos of the Ferrari California have been published months ago. But here in Paris the show is the real world of California’s first. And it’s worth waiting to see in the flesh. From a fully retractable hard with a double-clutch transmission for the first time the production of Ferrari with a front-mounted V-8, the Ferrari California is full of the latest and best engineers in Maranello, despite the Ferrari California is not flagship model.

Ferrari said that “Ferrari California GT is aimed at owners who want a car that embodies everything the Prancing Horse represents in terms of sporty design and innovation, but also look for a car with more versatility than ever.” This new prancing horse is not a “baby Ferrari.” It is in fact a new model to complement, and similar in size to the rational F430 - with the exception of California has more flexibility in packaging. Besides having a power retractable hard, California can be ordered in a 2 +2 configuration - the only child of seats - or for more storage space for weekend outings. There is even a trunk pass-through ski for those who want to hit the slopes in the winter.

Despite a series of new technologies, California will not forget Ferrari in the past. The car’s nostalgic style uses several elements of the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Those elements include the large air intake on the bonnet and side gills just aft of the front wheels close grille-work of identical and equally swoopy rear defenses. And the pictures do not do this car justice - it must be said, the Ferrari California GT looks absolutely stunning in person.

Unlike the Ferrari SUPERAMERICA a few years ago, which included a roof that simply turned backwards, Ferrari California GT will come true only as a rigid retractable, when the top has been reduced, the rear cover is completely flat - like the Mercedes-Benz SL. The principle is slick in its operation, and only takes 14 seconds to go from fully open to closed.

As with any Ferrari, the engine is the star. The 4.3 liter direct-injection flat-crank V-8 produces 460 hp. Even more important is the use of the Ferrari car the first dual-clutch gearbox with six speeds, as in any other recent Ferrari, but seven marches forward. Ferrari claims the California will be capable of hitting 100 kph (62 mph) in under 4 seconds.

In another dramatic move, Ferrari has swapped its traditional double Wishbone suspension in the rear on a multi-link setup in California. And the incredible (but incredibly expensive, lightweight and resistant to extinction) Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs seen in so many Ferraris these days? Rule on the question of California.

Ferrari began production in California later this summer in a new building in Maranello. It will be for sales in Europe before the end of the year. U.S. sales will continue later, probably as a 2009 model and price in the range of the F430.
