The 2010 Toyota Highlander car dates back to 2001 and was one of the first midsize crossover models. Its luxury equivalent is the Lexus RX 350, and both models have engineering DNA that can be traced to the Toyota Camry sedan. The 2010 Toyota Highlander’s robust powertrain, versatile interior and agile maneuverability make it an ideal choice as a do all family vehicle for Toyota consumers. Toyota Highlander offers Richmond Toyota drivers seven passenger seating, 95.4 cubic feet of storage space and an attractive cabin loaded with plenty of amenities.

The 2010 Toyota Highlander car combines the best attributes of a minivan, an SUV and a sedan. Redone two years ago, this mid-size crossover SUV is now slightly larger, adding shoulder room, hip room and legroom all around, as well as additional cargo capacity and seating for up to seven passengers. The 2010 Toyota Highlander marries performance and fuel economy like only Toyota vehicles can, and the interior remains equally loyal to the Toyota commitment to maximizing comfort and convenience.

The 2010 Toyota Highlander features a smooth ride and secure if uninspiring handling, as one would expect from a Camry-based crossover. Road noise is nicely suppressed, and engine noise is reduced to a barely perceptible electric hum when the gas engine shuts off.

The 2010 Toyota Highlander car offers a choice of three powertrains, three trim levels and front or all-wheel drive. The base Highlander comes with the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter V6. Engines are coupled to either a five- or six-speed automatic transmission with auto-manual shift. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings range between 17-20 mpg in the city and 23-27 mpg on the highway. The 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid shares a powertrain with the much pricier, ritzier 2010 Lexus RX 450h. It uses a specially tuned 3.3-liter V-6 paired with two electric motors where the transmission would go, plus one more electric motor that provides all-wheel drive by powering the rear wheels.

Standard safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, front side air bags, roll-sensing side-curtain bags, driver’s knee bag. Hill start assist and downhill assist control are optional. The Highlander Hybrid also includes the VDIM (vehicle dynamics integrated management) system, which integrates all of the safety electronics-including throttle and brakes-together to more seamlessly intervene when a potential loss of vehicle control is detected.

The 2010 Highlander (and its hybrid variant) earns the highest rating of Good in front, side and rear-crash tests at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, although its rollover roof strength has not yet been tested. The Highlander Hybrid earns 4 stars for rollover resistance and front-crash passenger protection in government crash tests, with the highest-possible 5-star ratings for frontal driver and side-crash protection.

The 2010 Highlander comes equipped with a wide range of very desirable features. Standard features for the vehicle include dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, full power accessories, stereo with CD and MP3 player and satellite radio. Those wanting a little extra utility will want to find a used model that comes with all-wheel drive.

The base 2010 Toyota Highlander price starts at $25,855, the 2010 Highlander Hybrid at $34,900, and the line competes with the Honda Pilot, the Chevrolet Traverse, the Mazda CX-9, and the (five-seat) Ford Edge.
