The 2010 Subaru Forester is a carryover from 2009. The 2010 Forester is the third generation of the popular crossover utility vehicle from Subaru, and was totally redesigned in 2009. The 2010 Forester once again blends positive SUV attributes including a high seating point and interior versatility with passenger car comfort, superior handling, fuel efficiency and is available in both 2.5 liter naturally aspirated and 2.5 liter turbocharged models. The naturally aspirated models are available with a manual or automatic transmission.

The 2010 Subaru Forester has a familiar wagon like shape, but it’s no longer as tall and boxy – it’s sleeker from the outside. Inside, the Forester inherits a swoopier design from the larger Tribeca, with an upright dash that flows smoothly around to the doors, yet the center stack of controls is quite upright and straightforward. On the Subaru Forester interior  it’s a good mix of high-quality silver plastic accents and black, ‘soft-touch’ plastic. Subaru engineers placed the radio at the top of the dash, because we all know that fiddling with the radio is far more rewarding than doing the same with the air conditioning knobs.

The 2010 Subaru Forester comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (4×4), a real advantage over the competitive models that makes the all-wheel drive an extra-cost option. The 2010 Subaru Forester has enough turbo power to bring a smile as you drive this all-wheel-drive SUV. The 2010 Forester is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in 5 trims, ranging from the 2.5X to the 2.5XT Limited. The better the trim with the Forester, the better the vehicle.

The 2010 Subaru Forester comes with the same engine options as the 2009 models. Upon introduction, the 2.5X is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, H4, 170-horsepower engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. The 2010 Forester offers naturally aspirated and turbocharged/inter-cooled 2.5-liter Boxer engines, both revised in the 2009 redesign to provide better performance. In particular, low-end and mid-range torque in both engines was improved for more responsive everyday performance.

Standard safety equipment includes electronic stability and traction control systems, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, active front head restraints, front side-impact airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor. Standard equipment across the board includes four-wheel ABS brakes, a stereo system with CD player, and the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. The higher trims add sport-designed seats, a front-lip spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels, Sirius satellite radio capability, and a premium stereo system with a six-disc changer and subwoofer.

The 2010 Subaru Forester is available with a starting price of $20,295 but can reach prices of $28,495 based on various packages, options, and your trim selection. The Forester’s main competition is the Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 with the Forester even looking like both of them now. The 2010 Forester is still a good deal, however, but perhaps it’s best to wait a year and see if Subaru listens to its owners as it has so well in the past.
