Chevy Equinox 2011

Saturday, July 24th 2010. | Chevrolet, Featured, New Car Review, SUV

Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2011 Chevy Equinox, a compact crossover. It’ll essentially be the same vehicle introduced for model-year 2010 to replace the 2005-2009 Equinox. The 2010 Chevy Equinox is the best midsize suv out there now. Chevrolet claims the 2011 equinox has better highway fuel economy than Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and even ford escape hybrid. The aerodynamic windshield and lowered roof is also designed to achieve the excellent gas mileage. Chevrolet is not charging a premium for the improvements done to the Chevy Equinox.

The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox styling won’t change beyond some new exterior color choices and perhaps a fresh wheel style or two. It’ll continue as a four-door wagon with a one-piece rear liftgate. The 2011 Equinox design is impressive in every sense of the word, with dozens of convenient features, the most rear-seat legroom in its class, an available rear seat DVD entertainment system, available programmable liftgate and much more. Front-wheel drive is still standard, but all-wheel drive is available with both engines. Front and rear seat occupants may find themselves looking for more space and more comfort when it comes to the seats. Wide-opening rear doors allow plenty of space for rear passengers to climb in and a large cargo area can hold more than the other two crossovers on this list. Front and rear variable-speed intermittent wipers allow you to keep your vision untainted at all times, maximizing the safety and efficiency of your driving.

The 2011 Chevy Equinox is powered by a 2.4-Liter four cylinder direct injection Ecotec engine producing 182 horsepower with a torque of 172 pound-feet. It’s among the more powerful four-cylinders in the class. A six-speed automatic transmission is used exclusively. While nee generation autos are an improvement of the older versions the Equinox has slightly regressed considering that the previous version is powered by a 3.4-Liter V6 engine with a torque of 210 pound-feet. The 2011 Chevy Equinox is a Crossover vehicle getting 22 mpg on the city and 32 mpg on the highway for a possible 600 miles on one tank of gas. Depending on how drivers manage the throttle, they can potentially average 550 miles on one tank of gas. Chevrolet quotes a 0-60 mph time of 8.6 seconds for a front-wheel drive model, which is pretty quick for a four-cylinder-powered vehicle of this size. Also available is a V6 3.0-liter which gives 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque.

Standard safety features on the new Chevy Equinox include: four-wheel-disc brakes with ABS, electronic stability system, six airbags, tire pressure monitor, OnStar, security system and daytime running lights. Available high-tech features include Bluetooth, a USB audio port, twin-screen rear entertainment system, rearview camera and a power liftgate. Standard features on the crossover consist of six airbags, disc brakes on all wheels with electronic stability control and traction control from StabiliTrak, OnStar interface, XM Satellite Radio and alloy wheels measuring 17 inches in diameter.

The 2011 Chevy Equinox pricing won’t be released until shortly before the vehicle goes on sale, but as a reference we can estimate based on the 2010 model year price. The 2010 Chevy Equinox is available with a starting price of $22,615 but can reach prices of $29,970 based on various packages, options, and your trim selection.
